Bob Dylan - Knockin' on Heaven's Door
Lyrics :
Mama, take this badge off of me
I can't use it anymore.
It's gettin' dark, too dark to see
I feel I'm knockin' on heaven's door.
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Mama, put my guns in the ground
I can't shoot them anymore.
That long black cloud is comin' down
I feel I'm knockin' on heaven's door.
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Although the lyrics are few and rather simple, this song is amazing. The tempo, chords, vocal range, and somewhat repetitive nature of the lyrics make it catchy and turn it into a reflective experience. Originally for the 1973 movie "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid," the song was about the death of a deputy who could no longer serve in the police force after *gasp* getting killed in the line of duty. It's tragic, heroic, catchy, and overall a good song.
